BIG Changes for ACY....

4/1/2021

Hi Friends,
After several long conversations with my sweetie about whether, how and when to return to teaching, at his and my mentor’s suggestion, am going to give it an exploratory-go.

For those of you interested, coming back to Aspiration Community Yoga will be different for all of us. I, like you, did not enter into suspended animation a year ago, rather continued to live and learn and adapt and change.
As I mentioned in other newsletters this past year, I discovered how tired I was and how much I really like spending time with my husband.

What I didn’t mention was learning that my original plans to retire from my day job in the fall 2023 will really be 2031- as I, too, financially need to wait until I am eligible for Medicaid at 65 years old. I know for a fact I am incapable of working two jobs 6 days a week, for the next 10 years. I would be shorting you, myself and my co-workers at the day job.
I also didn’t mention that my role and responsibilities became much bigger at my day job, meaning that I have less reserve for preparing and teaching 5 classes a week.

I haven’t told you yet that John and I bought gym equipment and set up a squat rack, with bar and weights and set it up against the kick-up wall in the front room, decreasing the floor space available for bodies to gather and practice together.

This leads to what returning to ACY will be for us, at least for this immediate future:
  • Beginning Saturday, April 3rd, I'm going to start offering 3 sessions a week for in-person strength, mobility and stability work for individuals and cohabiting couples. The sessions are only for pre-pandemic, committed regulars of ACY. They will be available on mash-up of first come, first serve, rotating sign-up sheet I will maintain. You will no longer be able to self-sign up for class though the website.
  • My teaching liability insurance company leaned on me hard this past January, emphasizing that I must require signed liability waivers from those of you who wish to return to ACY. These are a once-a-year thing, common in most health and fitness businesses, so mine won’t be any different from what you have done elsewhere.
